The Pickens County Silver Shield Program was created to provide an added layer of safety, support, and peace of mind for the elderly, disabled, medically vulnerable, and homebound residents of our community. The program is designed to help first responders and emergency personnel better assist individuals who may need additional attention during emergencies, severe weather events, welfare concerns, or other critical situations.
Silver Shield is a voluntary registration program that allows participants to provide important information such as emergency contacts, medical concerns, mobility limitations, and residence details that may assist deputies, dispatchers, EMS, and other emergency responders when time matters most. Our mission is simple: to protect and support the most vulnerable members of our community through preparedness, communication, and compassionate public service.
The Pickens County Silver Shield Program is built on the belief that public safety extends beyond emergency response. It is about building relationships, promoting independence, and ensuring that our senior citizens and vulnerable residents know they are valued, remembered, and never alone. Through proactive welfare checks, emergency preparedness initiatives, and enhanced communication between families and first responders, Silver Shield aims to improve response efforts and strengthen community safety throughout Pickens County. The program also helps emergency personnel quickly identify residents who may require special assistance during: Severe weather events, Extended power outages, Medical emergencies, Evacuations, Welfare checks, and Other emergency situations.
Participation in the Silver Shield Program is completely voluntary, and all information is maintained securely and used only to assist emergency responders and authorized personnel when necessary. The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office is proud to serve our community through programs that prioritize safety, dignity, and care for every resident.
